20 Years of Asbestos Management

This year is the 20^th anniversary of a formal duty to manage the risks of asbestos becoming a legal obligation for those responsible for a non-domestic building. It was introduced by the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002, and is overseen by the Health and Safety Executive (‘HSE’).

Asbestos is the largest cause of work-related deaths in the UK.  Asbestos-related diseases cause approximately 4,500 deaths each year in the UK, according to statistics published by the HSE in July 2022.  This is largely due to historic exposure.
