Following an asbestos seminar delivered at a prestigious London-based cost consultancy, Global Environmental was appointed to carry out a demolition survey of a mixed-use property in London’s West End prior to its redevelopment.
The 1960s built building which is currently residential units, offices and retail will be transformed into a mixed-use property including 24 homes, 60,000 sq ft of office space and retail at ground level.
Global sent two of their most experienced surveyors due to the complexities of pre-demolition surveying which places far greater responsibility on the consultancy as it needs to ensure that no-one will be harmed during the demolition and helps to dictate the safety measures that will be put in place.
Paul Phillips, Operation Manager for Global commented:
“Our exhaustive survey, carried out over five days, removed samples from items over all six floors where we would expect to find asbestos. We were not surprised to find asbestos insulating board (AIB) and asbestos in the pipe lagging and in the overspray in the boiler room. These items can now be safely removed prior to demolition.”
