The duty to manage asbestos

The duty to manage asbestos is placed on the person or organisation that has the main responsibility for maintenance or repair of the building.  It applies to non-domestic premises and the common parts of multi-occupancy domestic premises, such as purpose built flats.  The HSE has created a video to explain the basic steps that should be taken to manage any asbestos in a building and to protect people from the risks of exposure.

Clearing the air: asbestos in schools and hospitals

Mesothelioma UK has launched a report on the costs and benefits of removing asbestos from UK schools and hospitals called Clearing the Air.  The report  looks at asbestos-related diseases caused by  exposure to asbestos for teachers, doctors, nurses and other employees who work in those buildings but never worked directly with asbestos.
