Consultation launched on updates to the Control of Asbestos Regulations

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has opened a consultation on how to strengthen the way the Control of Asbestos Regulations and guidance are applied, aiming to better protect workers and building occupants.

Great Britain already has strong workplace health and safety performance, but asbestos remains a serious long-term risk. The proposals focus on three improvements:

  • Ensuring greater independence and impartiality in the four-stage clearance process to cut post-removal exposure risks.
  • Raising the quality and consistency of asbestos surveys so dutyholders have clearer information to manage risks safely.
  • Clarifying which activities qualify as Notifiable Non-Licensed Work (NNLW) with asbestos.

Feedback is invited from dutyholders, asbestos analysts, removal contractors, surveyors, and related professionals in facilities management and construction. To give your feedback visit this page.
